This is one I can’t hammer on long enough. We have created a huge and profitable subsection of cardiology that, quite frankly, does nothing to change long term outcomes in patients. Cardiologists are getting rich on PCI procedures that, from several studies now, have failed to show a long term benefit. I could not begin to calculate the costs associated with these procedures collectively, but I can guarantee that lifestyle changes would be a little cheaper.
